Mount Toukbal has the highest peak in North
Africa, at 4167m. It was a little hard to
get there, it took us two days from Imlil to the summit. The scenery is beautiful and I even saw a waterfall. We met with locals and our fellow climbers, who were
from Europe, and we all had breakfast together.
Everyone was in a good mood and it was very nice to have time to talk
to people and be a part of each other's journeys. I saw a lot of
donkeys on the way to the Refuge. They were carrying bags, which made
the trek easier for people.
From the village to the
Refuge it took us 6 hours and we stayed in one of the two hostels. We
didn't book the hostel online and we were told that we should have,
to ensure we got a room, as they turn a lot of people away and they
have to sleep outside. Luckily, they had beds for us so we were
relieved. The next morning we left at 05:00 and reached the summit at
around 08:00. Once we reached the summit, we all forgot that we were
tired, as we admired the spectacular views! Everyone was happy and
posed for pictures.
After about half an
hour we left the summit. It was easier going down the mountain in
comparison to going up. We slid down easily and got back to the
Refuge in about 2 hours. Once back, we had lunch and relaxed and then
carried on back to Imlil.
Imlil and neighbouring
areas are great to do cycling tours to see the Atlas Mountains and
for other sports adventures.
